Wild and Local Clay and Coil Building Class - Thursday Afternoons
Wild and Local Clay and Coil Building Class - Thursday Afternoons
Thursday Afternoons, September 25 - October 30, 1:00-4:00pm
Instructor: Julie Anderson
Cost: $525
Description: This experimental class will involve digging up local wild clay in the Steamboat area and then learning how to process and test the material for use in our studio practice. We will then coil build or wheel-throw some vessel forms with the processed clay, burnish the vessel surface and decorate with clay slip. We will finish off the last day of class with an open sagger firing fueled by wood and sawdust to create various surface effects on the finished pieces. Students will have an additional 3 weeks of open studio time at the end of class to complete projects made with their local clay.
