Date Night Pottery Wheel Class Saturday, June 9th

Cost: $130 per COUPLE, includes instructor fee, glazes and firings for up to 2 pieces

Age: Adults 18 and over.

Description: Whether you’re a married couple or just friends, we welcome you to the studio for some fun in the mud.  We will guide the two of you along with 3 other couples through the basic steps of throwing on the potter’s wheel.  Participants can save up to two pieces each and choose a glaze for each one.  The saved work will be fired and ready within 3-4 weeks.  Feel free to bring snacks, beer, wine or another beverage to enjoy during class if you are over 21.  We will have aprons, but please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Limited to 4 couples. 


Making a Hand-Built Chicken Teapot

Cost: $150, includes instructor fee, materials used during class & firing fees

Description:  All Skill levels Welcome!  Students will create a unique hand-built chicken teapot using simple press molds for basic forms and creating their own textures and shapes for feathers and other details.  Pieces will be glazed in single color of the student’s choice and will be fired to completion within 4-5 weeks.  Please bring a photo of a chicken for your reference.


6 Week Tuesday Evening All-levels Pottery Wheel Class

Cost: $360 - includes 7 weeks open studio use May 15th-June 26th, 25 lbs of clay, glazes and firings during class session.  Additional clay/glaze/firing package available for $75 per bag.

Age: Adults and teens 13 and over

Description: This class will cover the first basic steps of wheel-thrown ceramics. Students will learn to center the clay on the wheel, form the bottom of the vessel and then begin creating simple cylinder forms.  Students will also learn to trim their pots on the wheel and glaze their pieces. Intermediate students can brush up on their skills and will choose specific projects to work in a series, improving craftsmanship and to creating more complex forms. Students will have the option to fire in cone 6 oxidation or cone 10 reduction. Carving techniques and slip trailing/decoration will also be demonstrated and incorporated into the class for those who are interested.  Those who have taken the class before are welcome to work on more advanced methods of decoration and building. Several additional open studio times will be scheduled for working outside of class.  We will also have a potluck kiln-opening party at the end of the session  - friends and family welcome!


6 Week Wednesday Afternoon All-levels Pottery Wheel Class

4 Week Thursday Evening Intermediate Wheel Class: Altering Forms

Cost: $310, includes instructor fee, 5 week open studio use, 25 lbs of clay, glazes and firings during class session

Age:  Teen & Adults age 13 and up

Description:  Students will learn new ways to alter their round wheel-thrown forms into new and exciting shapes.  We will push, pull, dart, poke and paddle pieces into unique forms ranging from square to completely organic and flower-like.  We will also incorporate carving, stamping and sprigs into our altered pieces.  Students will develop their own style and library of forms.  Prerequisite: at least one multi-week all-levels wheel-throwing class


6 Week Thursday Afternoon Hand-Building with Slabs & Surface Decoration Class

May 17th - June 21st, 2018

Cost: $360, includes 7 weeks open studio use May 17th-June 26th, instructor fee, 25 lbs of clay, glazes and firings during class session.  Additional clay/glaze/firing package available for $75 per bag.

Age: Adults and teens 13 and over

Description:  We will begin by creating stamps and sprigs for use on slab-built forms.  Simple plaster forms will be used to create bowls and trays, textured with our own hand-made stamps.  We will also create cylindrical forms and alter them using darting techniques, creating fun, organic shapes for functional or non-functional vessels.  Students will have the option to create wall-hanging tiles or boxes to be decorated by carving, slip-trailing, slip inlay or sgrafitto. Participants will have the option to fire in cone 6 oxidation or cone 10 reduction.  We will also have a potluck kiln-opening party at the end of the session  - friends and family welcome!


4 Week Wednesday Evening Intermediate Wheel Class: Making Teapots and Jars

July 18 - August 8th, 2018

Cost: $310, includes instructor fee, open studio use July 18th - August 15th, instructor fee 25 lbs of clay, glazes and firings during class session.  Additional clay/glaze/firing package available for $75 per bag.

Prerequisite: Multi-week all-levels or beginner wheel class (or equivalent)

Age:  Adults & teens age 13 and up

Description:  Looking for a new challenge on the wheel? Teapots are the pinnacle of pottery projects!  They involve controlled and technical throwing techniques; Create lids, spouts and handles all on the same piece! The first week, Neely will guide students through the process of throwing jars and creating different types of lids.  The next two weeks, students will focus on the the more advanced project of creating teapot parts and assembling them.  The last class will be reserved for glazing.  Participants will have the option to fire in cone 6 oxidation or cone 10 reduction.  We will also have a potluck kiln-opening party at the end of the session  - friends and family welcome!


Please note our refund policy:  We base our classes running on having a minimum number of students, so it is important that student cancellations are for serious reasons only.  In the event that Warehome Studios is forced to cancel a class due to lack of enrollment or instructor illness, a full refund will be issued.

For single day classes:  A credit for future classes will be given for emergencies or in case of illness only.  Otherwise, the class tuition is non-refundable for single day classes.

For multi-day classes:  If a student chooses to cancel, refunds of the class tuition minus a 50% non-refundable deposit will be given up until the first class session of multi-week classes. There is no refund given after the first class.
