Date Night on the Pottery Wheel

Age: Adults 18 and over

Description: Whether you’re a married couple or just friends, we welcome you to the studio for some fun in the mud.  Advanced registration is required at warehomestudios.com/classes.  We will guide the two of you along with 3 other couples through the basic steps of throwing on the potter’s wheel. Feel free to bring snacks, beer, wine or other beverages to enjoy during class.  We will have aprons, but wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. This event is for adults age 18 and older.  Cost is $140 per couple.


Surface Design & Decoration Workshop

Cost: $110, includes materials and firings for work made during class

Description: Julie will sgraffitto, slip inlay, slip trailing and carving techiniques in leather hard clay.  Participants with be given clay slabs to practice their techniques and turn their slabs into wall-hanging tiles or trivets for decorative or functional use.  Students will choose a single glaze for their piece and they will be dried, glazed and fired within 4 weeks.


Raku Firing & Party

Cost: $80

Description:  Raku firing provides instant gratification for the artist!  Glazed ceramic pieces are taken out of the raku kiln, glowing red at around 1850 degrees Fahrenheit.  These pieces are immediately placed in a combustible material inside a steel can to produce flashing, crackle effects and rainbow metallic finishes.  Each firing takes about 30 minutes or so.  The ceramic piece is usually cooled within an hour, showing the highly variable effect. Students will learn glazing methods, safety procedures, and firing techniques.  Glaze results can be highly variable and exciting!  This will be a potluck event to fuel our fun with fire!  Please bring a dish to pass to celebrate the fun and enjoy the company of other artists.


Watering Cans & Drink Pitchers

Description: Participants with be given leather-hard clay slabs and guided through the steps of building a ceramic watering can or drink pitcher. Students will choose a single glaze for their piece and they will be dried, glazed and fired within 4 weeks.

Mother’s Day Pottery Wheel Workshop

Age: Must be 8 or older

Description: Spend some quality creative time on the wheel with your child or just by yourself amongst a fun, mixed age group of people.  This workshop is made for those who are curious about the wheel or want to further their skills without the commitment of a multi-week class. We will guide you through the basic steps of throwing on the potter’s wheel. Invite your friends or family and wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Cost is $90 and includes instructor fee and materials for up to 3 pieces.

After School Kid’s Ceramic Class

Cost: $210, includes instructor fee and clay and glaze materials during class

Age: 8 and up

Description:  Students will create several projects designed to exercise their imagination during the first three weeks of class. They will learn how to wedge and hand build with clay using slab, coil, and pinch techniques.  Kids will also learn multi-step decorating and glazing techniques for their pieces in the last two classes. All clay work will be fired to 2150 degrees Fahrenheit for use in the home and kitchen if desired.

Children can take bus Route 10 West and can get off at Wagner Rents at 3:59pm directly across the street from Warehome Studios for convenient drop off.


After School Kid’s Pottery Class (Wheel)

Tuesdays, May 7th-June 4th, 3:45-5:45pm

Cost: $295, includes instructor fee and clay and glaze materials (max. 15lbs clay per child)

Age: 8 and up

Description: Kids love to play in the mud! In this class, they will learn how to wedge and center their clay on the wheel and then proceed to the fun and messy throwing process of creating cylinders, cups, bowls and possibly plates, depending on progress during class.  Students will also learn to trim their pots on the wheel when the clay has stiffened to “leather hard” stage. They will then decorate and glaze their work over the course of several weeks. All pieces will be fired to 2150 degrees Fahrenheit for functional use in the home and kitchen.

Beginner Pottery Wheel Class

Cost: $390 - includes open studio use May 9th-June 20th, 25 lbs of clay, glazes and firings during class session.  Additional clay/glaze/firing package available for $75 per bag.

Age: Adults and teens 13 and over

Description: This class will cover the first basic steps of wheel-thrown ceramics. Students will learn to center the clay on the wheel, form the bottom of the vessel and then begin creating simple cylinder forms.  Students will also learn to trim their pots on the wheel and glaze their pieces. Intermediate students can brush up on their skills and will choose specific projects to work in a series, improving craftsmanship and to creating more complex forms. Students will have the option to fire in cone 6 oxidation or cone 10 reduction. Carving techniques and slip trailing/decoration will also be demonstrated and incorporated into the class for those who are interested.  Those who have taken the class before are welcome to work on more advanced methods of decoration and building. Several additional open studio times will be scheduled for working outside of class.  We will also have a potluck kiln-opening party at the end of the session  - friends and family welcome!

Hand Building Class

Tuesdays, May 7th - June 11th, Noon-3pm

Cost: $350, includes instructor fee, open studio use May 7th - June 18th, 25 lbs of clay, glazes and firings during class session

Age:  Teen & Adults age 13 and up, all levels welcome

Description:  We will begin by creating stamps and sprigs for use on slab-built forms.  Simple plaster forms will be used to create bowls and trays, textured with our own hand-made stamps.  We will also create cylindrical forms including cups, bottles and fun flasks.  Students will have the opportunity to create a pinch-pot sculptural sphere/rattle.  All objects created can be decorated using carving, sgraffito and slip inlay techniques that will be taught during the session. Glazing and firing information will also be discussed.  Work will be fired for functional use if desired. We will also have a potluck kiln-opening party at the end of the session  - friends and family welcome!

Please note our refund policy:  We base our classes running on having a minimum number of students, so it is important that student cancellations are for serious reasons only.  In the event that Warehome Studios is forced to cancel a class due to lack of enrollment or instructor illness, a full refund will be issued.

For single day classes:  A credit for future classes will be given for emergencies or in case of illness only.  Otherwise, the class tuition is non-refundable for single day classes.

For multi-day classes:  If a student chooses to cancel, refunds of the class tuition minus a 50% non-refundable deposit will be given up until the first class session of multi-week classes. There is no refund given after the first class.
